Should You Open an eBay Store?

Selling through an eBay store used to be as simple as creating as many auction listings as you had items to sell. But today, there are fixed price listings, store listings, non-store listings, auctions, etc. The site pushes a store memberships pretty hard, but is it indeed vital to have a store to sell on eBay?

In a word- no. It is not necessary. However, if you are a mid-volume to high-volume seller, it may be best for you to open an eBay store. The reason? it's all about price. Each item listing, the price you pay to list an item on eBay, costs less to list if you have an eBay store than if you don't. If you only list 20 or 30 items per month, it is likely not vital for you to have an eBay store. If you sell significantly more than this, however, it should be less expensive for you to have a store.

The cost of opening an entry-level eBay store is .95 a month. If you run a vital number of listings, this price is far less than what you would pay in higher listing fees without a store. And, with a store, there are a lot more branding opportunities given to you. With a store name and a virtual storefront on the site, you can get more concentration for your products. You can send out a newsletter through the site, and you can store your store front instead of your individual listings.
