Album Review: Lee DeWyze - Live It Up (2010)

Finally the much awaited Album of Lee DeWyze the surprise winner of Season 9 American Idol 2010.

I heard an interim issue of his, a cover version of U2's 'Beautiful Day' (Not included in this album) and I was impressed and was so seeing send to see how Lee used this gigantic occasion he earned. He didn't disappoint.

Us Open 2010

His new album, not his debut ('So I'm Told' in 2007 and 'Slumberland' in 2010) was a good package. Released November 16, 2010 - it was great to once again hear that familiar gruff vocals of his which made him the standout contestant in the 9th Season.

The occasion track was a great start and a good first impression. The first track, also the title track was catchy, the lyrics were great and it spoke to me to...well...to Live it Up. The next track was his legal first particular off this album 'Sweet Serendipity'. honestly I just didn't like it. It was a bit too noisy and drowned out at times whether his vocals or at other times the music. However his pronunciation of 'serendipity' and the flow at the chorus was nice!! It did give punch.

The rest of the album was a 50-50 for me. There were a few good stuff which perked my ears and even made me do a combine of re-listens, such as his very Simon & Garfunkel like track ' Dear Isabelle'. Then there's one track 'Me and My Jealousy' whose chorus was very Ozzie Osbournish. Weird but quite similar. I ended up liking the song just for that feel.

My favourite although was the last track, 'A Song about Love' Just loved it and undoubtedly would add this to my own singing repertoire. Great lyrics and breathtaking feel. His vocals echo all straight through and the music is just right.

Throughout the album his vocals were great. Whilst separate in its own way, It was somewhere in between John Mayer meets Ronan Keating.

I appreciated his first post-idol attempt. He didn't go all out over his head as did other Idols like Adam Lambert or Blake Lewis who didn't get quite into the groove as they tried too hard to impress. He did his stuff, in the way he wanted it and it did sound good. It did have some elements of creating some charting stuff.

Thumbs up to him. He wasn't my favourite to win Idol, but he was good honestly and deserves his occasion in the light!

My Star rating: ***
